Travel Tips for Jordan

Currency

The official currency of Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). ATMs are widely available in cities and tourist areas, and credit cards are accepted at many hotels and shops. It’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller purchases or markets.

Language

Arabic is the official language in Jordan, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas, hotels, and shops. Basic English communication should be easy for most travelers.

Dress Code and Etiquette

Jordan is a conservative country, so it’s respectful to dress modestly. For both men and women, wearing clothes that cover shoulders and knees is recommended, especially when visiting religious or rural sites. Always ask permission before photographing people, especially women.

Transportation

Public transport options include buses and shared taxis, which are affordable but can be less comfortable. Renting a car or using taxis and ride-sharing apps like Careem are convenient ways to get around, especially for exploring remote sites like Wadi Rum.

Health & Safety

Jordan is generally safe for travelers. Tap water is usually safe to drink in cities, but bottled water is recommended in rural areas. Stay hydrated, especially during hot months, and protect yourself from the sun. Travel insurance is advised for peace of mind.
